Bicarbonate Supplementation Slows Progression of CKD and Improves Nutritional Status

In this small randomized, non-placebo controlled, non-blinded study, the use of sodium bicarbonate supplementation reduced decline in kidney function and progression to end-stage renal disease. While these results will need further validation, they lend support to a commonly used treatment with a potentially large clinical impact.
