Specificity of Histological Markers of Long-Term CNI Nephrotoxicity in Kidney-Transplant Recipients Under Low-Dose Cyclosporine Therapy

.   .

Arteriolar hyalinosis has been considered as the hallmark of calcineurin-inhibitor toxicity. In this retrospective study, renal biopsies were compared between patients who did and did not receive cyclosporine. No histologic lesion, including arteriolar hyalinosis, was seen exclusively in cyclosporine-treated patients. The accompanying editorial discusses the need to develop specific markers of calcineurin-inhibitor toxicity.
